A documentary by Ridge Point High School students Kaitlin Catuiza, Kathleen Cruz, and Sneha Joseph earned the People’s Choice Award and also tied for First Place Documentary at the third annual Fort Bend ISD Film Festival. “World Changers: The Alyssa Ferguson Story” focuses on the legacy that freshman Ferguson left behind after losing her battle to cancer last year. The documentary also won first prize in its category. The Fergusons were deeply touched by the film and grateful to these students for telling Alyssa’s story in such a powerful way. Congratulations, girls!
Water Well in India Now Completed

The newest water well is now complete! This well was funded in partnership with the Alyssa Ferguson World Changers Fund (www.alyssasfund.com) and the Vacation Bible School children from the Fergusons’ church at First Colony and Living Water International. The well is in a small village in India. While they sometimes had government water, it often ran dry, leaving the middle school with no water for months for cleaning, cooking, or toileting (they would just go outside to use the restroom on the school grounds since no water). They now have running water, and each home that uses the water is paying a small fee each month to build up a reserve so they can maintain the well and own it as a community, thus ensuring it’s longevity. We are excited about the completion of this well, and for furthering Alyssa’s legacy and dream.
Humanitarian Award Named in Honor of Alyssa
Three years ago, Alyssa received the first ever humanitarian award at her school — Baines Middle School. Last night at the middle school awards ceremony, it was announced that they have now renamed the award to be officially called the Alyssa Ferguson Humanitarian Award. We are so proud of Alyssa for receiving the very first award. And we are so grateful to Baines for renaming the award in her memory. Congratulations to last night’s award winner! We look forward to hearing how future award winners are being World Changers and making an impact.

3 Wells Provided in Myanmar

The Alyssa Ferguson World Changers Fund is excited to announce that three water wells will be established in villages in Myanmar in honor of Alyssa’s legacy. These wells have generously been provided by a private donor. This donor is one whom Alyssa and the Ferguson family met during treatment at MD Anderson. This kind donor and Alyssa became very close and had a special bond. They would see each other frequently as the donor was often at the hospital being a caretaker for their own ill family member.
Myanmar is formerly known as Burma. The construction of each of the three wells is being coordinated by a missionary and each well will be located near a church.
Because of their generosity, water will flow for three more villages in Myanmar and Alyssa’s legacy and dream is that much furthered. Most of all, God is honored.
Buy T-shirt to Support Alyssa’s Fund
Several of Alyssa’s friends have designed a t-shirt to raise funds for Alyssa’s Fund and help her legacy of building water wells around the world. The Fergusons are grateful to her sweet friends for this wonderful effort!

U.S. Rep. Pete Olson Honors Alyssa’s Memory from the House Floor

U.S. Representative Pete Olson who once shared Alyssa’s story to his fellow colleagues in the House, shared that Alyssa passed away and honored her by having her passing entered into the Congressional Record.
His statement reads:
“WELCOME HOME, ALYSSA
(Mr. OLSON asked and was given permission
to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. OLSON. Mr. Speaker, I rise today
with hope, thanks, and renewed faith. I
am joyful because of a young lady from
home, Alyssa Ferguson. She was born
on January 7, 2002.
Two days after her 12th birthday,
Alyssa was told that she had a tumor
the size of a baseball in her brain. She
did not flinch; she fought—six brain
surgeries, three rounds of radiation,
and nine rounds of chemotherapy.
On January 26, our angel used her
wings to fly to God. She always had
those wings the entire time she was
with us here on Earth. She used her
dying wish to have a water well dug in
a small town in Africa. Extraordinary.
If you close your eyes, you can feel
Alyssa’s spirit.
Welcome home, Alyssa.”
